Octoberfest
17 Sep - 3 Oct 2016 | Munich
The Oktoberfest in Munich is the largest beer fest in the world and attracts each year more than 5 million visitors.
During a period of over 2 weeks, more than 5 million beers lovers will visit the festival area at the Theresienwiese (locally referred to as Wiesn) in the western part of the city.
The Octoberfest starts with a parade of the participating
breweries and the official opening by the major. Then the drinking
can get started at one of the 14 large beer tents.
You drink the beers sitting at long tables and drinking from large
one-liter tankards, which are being served at the table by
traditonally dressed girls and boys. Note however that seats should
be reserved well in advance, or you have to be very patient to get
one waiting in front of the tent.
Entertainment is provided by folks singers and bands at the podiums of the tents. Outside the tents there is a large fair with dozens of attractions and stals.
The festival site is opened daily from 10 am till midnight. During the weekends it is extremely busy. At week days it will be easier to find a free spot in one of the beer tents.
